2RB - Banana Split Sunday Challenge No. 5

It is once again time for 2RedBananas.com’s Banana Split Sunday Challenge. This week’s challenge is to make something that is not a card. Go to 2RB’s blog for more information and to check out the other Design Team member’s samples.

I didn’t have a problem with this challenge because I love to alter stuff, so I don’t always do just cards or layouts. I have baskets and boxes full of items that I figure I can alter some day. Today I chose to use this little sandwich frame (which consists of a cardboard back, glass front and clips to hold it all together) that had an image in it that no longer goes with my décor.

I used a piece of Imaginisce Baby’s Breath paper as the background. The sentiment is stamped with Brilliance Pearlescent Orchid ink using some Martha Stewart acrylic stamp letters. I also added some Sakura Stardust ink in the centers of the tiny flowers.

The image is a House Mouse stamp (from 2RB) that was stamped on watercolor paper with StazOn Jet Black ink and colored with watercolor pencils. Then I punched it out with a circle punch. There are some Stardust accents on the eggs and around the edges of the image. I adhered the image to the background paper and placed it in the sandwich frame.

This was a really quick and easy little project that my daughter is excited about hanging in her room for Easter. I hope you are inspired to join 2RedBananas’ challenge and create something different this week.

House Mouse Challenge

2RedBananas.com is hosting a House Mouse Challenge. It's pretty simple - there's a sketch and you just have to use a House Mouse image. Go to the House Mouse blog (http://housemouse-challenge.blogspot.com/) for more information.

I made this card for the challenge using red CS onto which I adhered a block of sei "Alpine Frost" patterned paper. I matted two additional blocks of sei patterned paper onto red CS and adhered them to the front of the card. The House Mouse image is stamped on white CS. I colored the image with watercolor pencils and a Tombow blender pen. I used Stickles on the snow and a black glaze pen for the bird's eyes. I cut the image in a circle and matted it on red CS, which I pop dotted onto the front of the card. I tied two pieces of white ribbon criss-crossed on the front and adhered three Dewdrops on the right-hand corner of the top block.

With All My Heart Card

This is a card I made using the 2009 House Mouse Stamp of the Month Collection stamp called "With All My Heart." These stamps are available, along with many others and an exclusive line of stamps, at 2RedBananas.com.

I made the card base with kraft paper (suddenly a favorite of mine) which I stamped randomly with hearts using a Glue Pad. I then sprinkled on Martha Stewart garnet glitter. I adhered a strip of red CS along the bottom. On top of that I adhered a strip of white CS on which I stamped the sentiment. I cut the bottom of the strip with scallop scissors and adhered a red rhinestone (Michael's) in each scallop. I also glittered the heart in the sentiment.
The image of the mice was stamped on white CS and I punched each mouse out with a circle punch. (The stamp is actually one image of both mice together.) The images were colored using watercolor pencils and a Tombow blender pen. I used a white Souffle pen on the words in each heart. On the smaller circle I punched three holes along the edge and knotted ribbon through them. I adhered each circle on the front of the card.

Love You Card

This is my first Valentine's card this year. Actually, it's my very first card of the year. I had some fun with this one. I used a House Mouse stamp and colored it with watercolor pencils. Then I used Diamond Glaze by Judikins to make the candy dish look more like glass. I don't think it shows up really well in the photo, but in person it turned out pretty cool. It definitely has a glassy sheen to it. I then adhered the stamped image to pearly Bazzil cardstock and added a heart shaped transparent die cut from Fancy Pants Designs to the upper right corner with two brads from Queen & Co. I sanded the die cut and rubbed a little yellow paint on it, then went around the edge with some Stickles before attaching it. I then adhered it to the card base, which is Basicgrey Oh Baby Girl paper. The letter stickers are the Cheeky Shimmer Stickers by Making Memories.
